North Star Stories: Why We Go Red

For more than three decades, NYCM Insurance has proudly supported the American Heart Association (AHA). This includes sponsoring America's Greatest Heart Run & Walk, the Kids’ Heart Challenge, donating equipment and toys for the Recess Reboot initiative, providing AHA Hands-Only CPR training for NYCM employees, and raising awareness for women’s heart health each year on National Go Red Day.

This year was no exception. In recognition of February as American Heart Month, we illuminated our Edmeston headquarters and our branch office in Sherburne. Team NYCM also showed up in full force for National Go Red Day on February 6.

We asked team members:

What does "going red" mean to you?

“Showing my voice — to let everyone know we must do more to fight heart disease and stroke. These issues have impacted my family in so many ways.” – Joann, Project Management

“It means educating and advocating for better health and providing support. Spreading awareness helps reduce risks.” – Kayla, Customer Service

“Awareness. I have been involved with the AHA a lot over the years and know people who have had heart problems. Awareness is key. Taking time to learn CPR is important. Fundraising for research is important.  It starts with awareness.” – Bob, Application Development

Is there a moment, person, or experience that inspired you to support the AHA?

“My best friend Danielle was born with a congenital heart condition. She is living with issues currently.” Ashley, Project Management

Heart disease is prominent in my family on both sides—in men and women.  My dad had a mini heart attack and my friends have nearly died from preeclampsia. Everyone you know has been affected by heart disease in some way, whether it's directly or indirectly.” – Lexia, Distribution

“NYCM has always inspired me to be more supportive, given the immense organizational support they have displayed over the years.”  Travis, Product Management

How does “Going Red” reflect NYCM's values?

It reflects NYCM's culture and how we embrace our community and come together as a team to do events like these!” – Alicia, Underwriting

Taking part in the Wear Red initiative promotes NYCM's value of embracing community, as the initiative involves many people.  When we all wear red, we show our community that we value taking care of ourselves and helping others with heart issues.” – Julie, Auto Claims

NYCM culture makes it easy for individuals to contribute to important causes in small ways that add up. It may not feel like any one person can make much of an impact on their own, but being part of a team reminds us that people are a powerful force of change when united!” – Joanna, Product Management

At NYCM, we believe by "going red" we are able to recognize American Heart Month and showcase our commitment to supporting the American Heart Association. By supporting causes and organizations dedicated to giving others hope for a better tomorrow, we can make our communities stronger and, with the help of the AHA, our hearts healthier.” – Kelly Pylinski, NYCM Division Manager of Brand Management and Heart Run & Walk committee member

NYCM Insurance is once again proud to sponsor America’s Greatest Heart Run & Walk, Saturday, March 7, 2026. To learn more about the Heart Run & Walk and the American Heart Association, visit here.
