What Winning J.D. Power Means to Us: Behind the Scenes of Our Employee Feature Video



When we found out that J.D. Power had ranked us #1 in Customer Satisfaction Among Auto Insurers in New York for the second year in a row, we couldn’t wait to spread the news. But as much as we couldn’t wait to tell our customers and agents, we were especially excited to tell our employees.

J.D. Power is a global leader in consumer insights, data, analytics and advisory services that helps clients drive growth and profitability. The J.D. Power 2019 Auto Insurance study marks the 20th anniversary of the study and considers five factors as it relates to customers’ satisfaction with their auto insurance provider: Interaction, Policy Offerings, Price, Billing Process and Policy Information, and Claims.

We’re fortunate at NYCM Insurance to have an amazing team that works tirelessly each and every day to hearten hope and inspire courage for our insureds. We couldn’t wait to tell them that their hard work had paid off...again!

To shine a spotlight on our amazing team, we knew we wanted to do something special to showcase the talent that made our success possible. Staying true to ourselves, we decided to create a video highlighting our employees.

Reaching out across 9 different departments, we picked NYCM team members at random and asked them one simple question: What does winning J.D. Power mean to you? To keep answers authentic, participants were not given prompts ahead of time.



Benjamin Gifford, member of the Brand Management team at NYCM Insurance developed the concept around the video and walked employees through the filming process.

“We always enjoy giving employees the opportunity to speak about the company's success on an individual level. It's amazing how many positive and encouraging reactions the employees had talking about the J.D. Power award. I'm happy we can help spread the word about their hard work.”


Digital Media Specialist David Green was the second mastermind behind the project and was present on set making sure all filming ran smoothly. 


“I love the spontaneity of producing a video like this. It’s simple and genuine. Our employees never cease to amaze me in their positive presentation and answers."Part of the fun of creating this video was surprising them with the chance to participate.


Kathleen Tyler is a Customer Relations Management Specialist and is one of the employees featured in the video. “I was so excited during the filming as it was the first time I've ever been asked to be a part of something so big! I have told all of my family and friends how proud I am to be in the video and to work for NYCM.”


After explaining what winning the award meant to them, participants were then surprised with a special viewing of the physical trophy. Check out the video below to see what the most common reaction was!
