Community Spotlight: NYCM Employees Take on No-Shave November

Each November, many NYCM employees put down their razor and step up to support their peers to recognize No-Shave November, a charity event that encourages men to be proactive with their health.

No-Shave November was first founded in 2009 by the Hill family who created a small fundraiser for their father Matthew Hill, who passed away in 2007 from colon cancer. What started out as a small Facebook group quickly turned into a nationwide fight against colon and prostate cancer.

For the past ten years, each November, people from all over the globe have been putting down their razors and pushing their salon appointments to December in an effort to raise money and awareness for men’s health. Since 2009, No-Shave November has raised over $12 million and has no plans of slowing down any time soon! 

This year, NYCM Insurance employees participated in No-Shave November in a few different ways. Some signed up on the website and are pledging to not shave during the entire month. Other employees are donating their spare change to their fellow colleagues’ pages. 

NYCM employees have the opportunity to take it a step further this year with a No-Shave November Beard Contest. With options available for participants to create their best “beard,” even those who can’t grow one are still able to join in on the fun and raise awareness. Employees shared photos of fake beards made with crafts, snapchat filters, bubble beards, and their before-and-after faces throughout the month of November. By participating in our Beard Contest, employees also had the opportunity to earn stamps towards their 360 Passport to Wellness program progress. 

Employees also had the opportunity to help raise funds by purchasing specially branded “NYCM No-Shave November” merchandise. Some of these items included mustache adorned gaiters, sweatshirts, and hats. At the end of the month, proceeds from the themed sale will be donated to the Matthew Hill Foundation through the NYCM Insurance No-Shave November Team Page

This year through the various activities, NYCM employees have collectively raised over $1,000 to support No-Shave November! We appreciate all employees and community members who have gotten involved this year and hope that everyone would consider participating in their own way next year.
