One thing we’re proud of at NYCM Insurance is our culture.
We believe in work-life balance, in succeeding as a team and embracing
community. We’re proud of how far we’ve come in the last 120 years and we know
that we couldn’t have done it without the support of our communities across New
York State. From our humble roots in Edmeston, NY to our branch
offices in Sherburne,
Orchard Park and Canajoharie, we attribute our success to the hard work of our
employees and the support of our agents, customers and community members.
To give back to the communities that have done so much to
support us and help us grow, we encourage our employees to volunteer and make a
difference through our paid volunteer time benefit. While we’re happy to offer
our employees a wide
range of unique benefits this is one we’re particularly fond of.
Upon hire, all employees are given 16 hours of paid
volunteer time. We encourage our employees to spend this time volunteering for
the organizations they are most passionate about; supporting the causes that
spark a fire within them. Whether it’s picking up litter on Earth
Day or working alongside our Brand Management Team at one of our corporately-sponsored
events the possibilities are truly endless.
Through these endless possibilities, we’re proud to
announce that in 2019 our employees volunteered over 1,000 hours to community
groups and nonprofit organizations. To celebrate, we interviewed some of our
team members about their volunteer experiences.
Paige Ingham has been with NYCM Insurance for 19 years and
has volunteered at several events this year in the local community including
the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk in Utica, NY and a
Halloween-themed event, Trunk or Treat, at local Unadilla Valley Central
School.
Another active employee volunteer is Administrative Assistant, Kathryn Korcz. Kathryn has been an NYCM employee for two years and has enjoyed spending her volunteer time participating in a local roadside trash cleanup in honor of Earth Day, assisting in a food distribution program for United Way, and helping our neighbors at Pathfinder Village – a community with individuals living with Down Syndrome - decorate a community haunted house for Halloween.
Kathryn has
also picked up food from a local food bank and delivered it to a local school
for their Backpack
Program, and most recently signed up to help deliver pizzas to the
Department of Transportation as a gesture of thanks.
“One of the
greatest gifts you can give someone is your time. Aside from the enjoyment of helping
others, I feel a strong morale boost volunteering as an NYCM Insurance employee.
There is a sense of pride connected to volunteering as a representative of
NYCM. By encouraging us to use our volunteer hours however we wish, and
providing suggestions of upcoming ways to volunteer, it is apparent that NYCM Insurance
embraces a culture of caring.”
New to living
in Central New York, Kathryn also uses her volunteer time as a way to become
better acquainted with the area.
“Volunteering has
helped me strengthen and build authentic relationships with my co-workers and
the community.”
