Most people will probably nod their heads when
we say that 2020 has looked a little differently than we expected it to. As
we’ve all continued to adjust to our new routines and lifestyle,
here at NYCM we’re finding it hard to believe that we’re already at the end of
Q3.
Through Q3, the majority of our team has
continued to work from home, servicing our customers and
providing care as we all adapt to life during this unprecedented moment in
time. We’ve continued to improve our internal safety protocols and have had
some fun along the way. Read on to learn more about what we’ve been up to these
last three months:
Getting Creative on Independence Day
We kicked off the summer by encouraging employees to share their
Independence Day celebrations with us. As part of our 365 Passport to Wellness internal program, we
asked everyone to create something in the theme of “red, white and blue” and
share their creations with the rest of Team NYCM through our corporate
intranet. Our employees didn’t disappoint and got creative with paint,
palettes, coloring sheets, tie dye, food - and even a few themed face masks!
Sharing Our History
We’ve come a long way in 121 years! We thought
it would be fun to share our story
with our readers. Check out an abridged version of our company’s
history here.
Celebrating Sisters
We love how many family members we have
working together within our broader NYCM family! On National Sisters Day we
published a blog article highlighting some of our sister groupings - both
biological siblings and co-workers who are so close they consider themselves to
be related! Read it here.
Safety Updates to Our Offices
In preparation for our return - and keeping
the safety of employees currently still working
in our offices top of mind- we made several new
safety upgrades to all of our office facilities. Our buildings now boast
touchless sinks, toilets and hand dryers in the bathrooms as well as touchless coffee machines in the breakrooms.
Labor Day
Aside from taking the day off, we celebrated
Labor Day this year with a special post to our blog, highlighting the history
and origins of the holiday. To read the article, click here.
Our Mid-Year Update Celebration - Sent Through the Mail
Usually during the summer we gather together to celebrate the
first half of the year as an NYCM family during our Mid-Year Update
Celebration. The event is marked by food, games and the opportunity to share
updates from the past year and look forward to the year ahead. Due to most of
our employee base working from home and COVID-19 making it unsafe to gather
together in person, we decided to send our celebration through the mail.
Instead of celebrating as a team, we sent each employee a gift card to redeem
at a restaurant near them, giving them the opportunity to dine out (or take
out!) with their family members at home.
Back-to-School Drive
Every year we look forward to helping local students get ready for back-to-school with an
employee-driven school supply drive. This year, we had to
adapt our methodologies but are proud to still be providing school supplies to
children living near our Edmeston and Sherburne locations. Supplies donated and
distributed include items such as book bags, binders, pens, pencils, notebooks
and more!
Supporting the Fight to End Alzheimer’s
This quarter we were proud to support the
fight against Alzheimer’s by being the Presenting Sponsor at the Walk in
Oneonta, NY, a Supporting Sponsor at the Buffalo, NY Walk, and a Bronze Sponsor
at the Schenectady, Fulton and Montgomery Walk. While the walks may be virtual
this year, we’re proud to support the cause and do our share in fighting back
against this disease that affects 5.8 million Americans. To learn more about the
Walk to End Alzheimer’s, click here.
