Here at NYCM Insurance,
we were excited to kick off the new decade with a bang. From focusing on our sponsorship efforts, to thanking New York State with a series of new
live-action commercials, Q1 saw a lot of energy and excitement for the year
ahead. Read on to learn more about our Q1 initiatives and how we’ve been
prioritizing health and wellness amongst the COVID-19 outbreak:
Thanking New York State with New Creative
In 2019 we were excited to be awarded the J.D. Power Award for ranking #1 in
Customer Satisfaction Among Auto Insurers in New York, 2 years in a row. To
keep the momentum going, we kicked off the year with a series of new live-action television spots.
The spots are dedicated to one simple ideology: “Thank you, New York.”
“From our employees, to our agents, to
our business partners and customers – we couldn’t have done it without the
support of all members of our ecosystem,” said Robert Snyder, Vice President of
Brand Management. “A series of new commercials felt like the right way to give
back and say ‘thank you.’”

Celebrating 2019 as a Team
Everything we do at NYCM is done with a team
spirit. We believe in championing everyone’s strengths, knowing that our best
work is work that is done together. With this attitude at the core of
everything we do, we make it a priority to get together as one big team every
year at our annual corporate retreat.
Our retreat is a special time because it
allows for all offices to come together as one. Employees from Edmeston, Sherburne, Orchard Park and
Canajoharie, gather as one unit to celebrate the past year and plan for the
year ahead. At this year’s event, we spent time going over our major
initiatives in 2019 and discussed plans for the future.
We also use the event to celebrate employees
who have gone above and beyond servicing our customers through our Vision in
Action award. This year’s award recipients included Sandy Truax, Anna Hughes and Don
Kaczmarek.
The event concluded with a classic rock comedy
performance by Mark Eddie, followed by a catered
lunch.
Supporting the Fight Against Heart Disease
One cause that we are passionate about
is the fight against heart disease. Twenty eight years ago, we began our partnership with the
American Heart Association as a way to give back to a cause that we felt
strongly about - unfortunately, many of our employees have experienced the trauma that heart disease
can bring, either on a personal level or through family members and friends. It
was a cause that our teammates could rally behind and continue to
support to this day.
With February being heart month, we spent a
lot of time this quarter giving back to the cause with initiatives like Wear
Red Day and attending the Heart Run and Walk events in both Oneonta and Utica.
Leading up to the events, our employees also participated in
several employee-driven fundraisers including special edition swag sold from
our internal store (this year we sold close to 500 pieces),
a BBQ chicken fundraiser by local restaurant Brooks’ House of
BBQ and breakfast sandwiches sold on site
at our Edmeston headquarters, among many others.
NYCM also sponsored the Hands Only CPR
Collegiate Challenge - a friendly contest among colleges in the
Utica, NY area designed to teach as many people as possible how to administer
hands-only CPR. This year, over 500 people were trained by this program.

Championing World Down Syndrome Day
Our Edmeston headquarters is a short drive
from one of our favorite neighbors - Pathfinder Village, a community dedicated
to serving individuals with Down Syndrome and other developmental disabilities.
Every March 21 (World Down Syndrome Day) we look forward to inviting several
Pathfinder residents to our campus to act as black jack dealers for an employee
tournament. The tie being the number 21 - Down Syndrome is caused by an extra
or partial copy of chromosome 21 and blackjack revolves around the number 21.
This year, to ensure the safety of our
employees and the Pathfinder residents due to COVID-19, we had to celebrate
World Down Syndrome Day from afar, by encouraging our employees to celebrate by
wearing blue and yellow as well as crazy socks on March 21, as a way to honor
and raise awareness for the holiday.
Continuing Construction
In November of 2019 we broke ground on a new
building addition that will provide our team with more office space and an
auditorium for town hall meetings and corporate events. Construction has
carried through the winter and we’re excited to watch the project unfold. To

Prioritizing the Health and Safety of our Entire Ecosystem
The end of Q1 looked very different from the
start as we joined the rest of the world in facing the novel coronavirus. Our
number one priority has always been the safety of our employees and those that
we share our ecosystem with: customers, agents, business partners and friends.
We ended Q1 with the vast majority of our employees working remotely,
continuing to service our customers from the safety of our homes. Our on-site
cafe has remained open to offer to-go meals for the few employees working on
site and for those able to drive to campus and pick them up. We’re continuing
to monitor the situation closely, so that we may act quickly and efficiently to
keep everyone’s health and wellbeing top of mind.
